Making the Library Mobile on a Shoestring Budget

1:00 pm – 2:00 pm CST WEDNESDAY, February 1st, 2012

Presenter: Ben Rawlins, Georgetown College

Description:
As more and more of our users become equipped with various mobile devices it is imperative that we begin looking at ways to provide mobile friendly access to the library’s resources. It has become all the more important now since smartphones and other mobile devices are outpacing the sale of personal computers. No longer do users simply want online access they want mobile access as well. This presentation will focus on the mobile projects that we have undertaken at Georgetown College. Those projects include the launch of a mobile catalog, the development of an iPhone application, the use of QR codes in our redesigned catalog interface, and seeking ways for our users to access our eBooks on their mobile devices. As time progresses and we receive feedback from our user base we will continue to evaluate various other mobile projects that would be useful to our users.
